Background
ConceiveAbilities guides intended parents, surrogates, and egg donors through family-building. That work is demanding. The company depends on employees being at their best. Their group health plan gave everyone the same plan options. Under that plan, every enrolled employee paid extra out of pocket for coverage. Only 36 employees were enrolled before the switch.
Approach
ConceiveAbilities moved off the group plan and gave each employee a budget to spend on their own coverage instead. Employees pick the plan that fits their own needs from the individual market, not one plan built for everyone. Leftover employer contributions can go toward other medical expenses employees choose. Thatch also took over the day-to-day support and compliance work HR used to handle directly.
Outcome
Costs held almost steady even as enrollment nearly doubled. Employee satisfaction moved with it. 84% now rate their benefits costs as good or great, up 22 points from the old group plan. 81% rate the quality of their coverage as good or great. 70% say it beats what they had at past jobs. HR spends far less time stuck between employees, brokers, and carriers than before.
💬 “Transitioning to Thatch has allowed us to use the same level of investment and offer empirically stronger medical benefits to our employees. The Thatch-enabled approach is more efficient and effective, which means that our dollars go further and enable our employees to select personalized coverage that works demonstrably better for them as compared with group medical plan option.” — Cathy Kenworthy, CEO
